BBC journalist, Aung Thura, has been detained in Myanmar during the course of his work. Aung joins the growing list of at least 36 media workers who have been arrested since the conflict began.
The AJF calls for his – and all media workers’ – release. Journalism is not a crime, it is an essential part of any democracy.
The AJF seeks to work diplomatically with countries in the region to ensure the public’s right to know is upheld. As a journalist, and without evidence of wrongdoing, Aung Thura must be released and allowed to continue covering the ongoing conflict.
